Frequently Asked Questions
What are the dues per season?
Fall Season of 2016:
10U/12U - $850 returning players, $1000 new players
14U - $1000 returning players, $1260 new players
16U/18U - $1200 returning players, $$1460 new players
High School $850 returning players, $1110 new players
What does that money cover?
The money covers all tournaments fees, uniforms, field rental fees, coaches hotels, coaching payments and recruiting.
How much are uniforms?
Approximately $150 for younger teams & $260 for older teams in which we are working to lower this cost.
This includes the three Russell jerseys with our logo sewn on (black, purple, white), a practice shirt, 2 pairs of white socks, 2 belts and 2 pairs of stirrups. We never change our jerseys so you can wear it until you graduate :)
Why do you do fundraising?
We fundraise for several reasons. The tournament costs have risen so much that in order to keep monthly dues low we ask if any players will do optional fundraising. Once we meet our goal then all additional money goes into each player's account. The money in your individual account can be used for anything you choose. Emails are sent out with the money that has been raised and what is in your account so you know at all times where the money is being allocated. You can choose to do fundraising or not to help pay for the monthly fees.
Can we do something to help pay for the season dues?
There are several fundraisers or sponsorships the athlete can do to offset the cost per month.
Sponsorships, what are they?
Sponsorships are when someone in the community believes in you enough to write you a check and support your child. It could be a friend, a business or a family member. All donations are completely tax deductible and we give out sponsor letters that explain our program, so that people in the community will continue to support us. If a person or business gives $150 they are put on the banner we take around to tournaments. If they give $200 they are put on the banner and given a plaque with a championship photo. If they sponsor us with any donation amount they are put on our website and given a thank you card at the end of the season signed by all of the girls. Sponsorships that you acquire go in your personal account and can be used to pay for anything you choose.
Speaking of recruitment, are you guys any good at helping girls get scholarships?
Any athlete that has ever wanted a scholarship has received one through our program. We work hard for our athletes and they work hard to achieve their dreams. I have helped girls receive scholarships from every level of collegiate softball, from NAIA to Division 1. I am also an Assistant Coach at Florida State College of Jacksonville, so I have a great relationship with many coaches and this continues to help our recruitment program.
Do we pay when we are not playing?
You pay one set amount for the season. We have two seasons, the fall and spring/summer. We usually collect payments in three installments and payment is made in full before the season begins so we are able to pay for the tournaments ahead of time.
Can I pay by Credit Card?
Yes, under our "More" section, click on the page that says "Dues and Donations." There are Paypal instructions for paying Season dues or for a sponsor to give a donation.
My child plays another sport will this interfere?
I played multiple sports in high school and I am a firm believer in an athlete doing this to help prevent burn out. As long as communication is good from the athlete and parents at the beginning of season we can work around any schedule.
Why do you do so much conditioning?
If you want to play collegiately this is a part of your everyday routine. This is why we make it a part of our everyday routine. Florida Select is here to prepare you physically, emotionally and mentally for the challenges that come with being a professional collegiate athlete.
What kind of tournaments do you play?
We play the best competition there is. The showcase teams play in the power pools and the younger teams find the tournaments that will give them the most competition in their age bracket.
What do you look for in an athlete?
I look for someone that loves this sport. Also, someone I never have to say hustle to and that loves to help their teammates more than themselves. I am looking for great ball players that can play at the next level. I am also looking for good parents. Good parents know when to let the coach give instructions to their child and just to enjoy being a parent who can cheer their child on in the stands.
This sounds like a lot of hard work?
It is. In the process of working your butt off, you will have the most fun you have ever had on a team and make lasting memories and friends. You will leave this program a better player than when you came in.
Where do we practice at mostly?
Florida State College of Jacksonville North Campus located at 4501 Capper Road or Palmetto Leaves Regional Park located at 5720 Greenland Road is the location of all teams for practices. Please consult with your coach for your practice schedule.
When do you practice?
We practice mostly on the weekends due to our athletes being so spread apart. We also hold optional practices during the week that have been very popular because they are smaller and involve a lot of one on one time. The girls get a lot of feedback and coaching instruction and they enjoy getting to work on whatever is needed.
